Job Description:
Job Overview The position serves as a key member of the
healthcare team in the Emergency Department, offering support,
guidance, and communication to patients' families and loved ones
during their stay in the emergency department. This role bridges
the gap between medical staff and family members, ensuring that
families are informed, reassured, and provided with the necessary
information to understand the care process. The position
independently provides advanced direct nursing care to patients and
their families in the emergency department in accordance with
established policies, procedures, and practices. Hours: Full-Time
Location- Lowell General Main Campus Job Description Minimum
Qualifications: 1. Massachusetts RN Licensure. 2. 3 Years of RN
Experience in an Emergency Department or related clinical setting.
3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. 4. Current
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
2. Additional certifications in trauma care or family-centered care
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed
below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are

responsibilities may be assigned. 1. Serves as the primary point of
contact for family members, providing updates on patient status,
treatment plans, and expected outcomes. 2. Offers emotional support
and guidance to patients’ families, helping them navigate through
crisis situations with empathy, understanding, and professionalism.
3. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other medical
professionals to relay information to families and ensure all
concerns and questions are addressed promptly. 4. Advocates
patients and their families by ensuring their needs and preferences
are communicated to the healthcare team. 5. Daily participation in
purposeful rounding with patients and families. 6. Helps manage
difficult or emotionally charged situations, de-escalating
conflicts and providing reassurance to family members. 7. Provides
families with clear and understandable information regarding
diagnoses, treatment options, procedures, and care plans. 8.
Participates in quality initiatives in collaboration with ED
leadership. 9. Accurately documents family interactions, patient
updates, and any concerns raised during discussions. 10. Provides
culturally competent care by respecting diverse backgrounds and
ensuring that communication is sensitive to cultural differences.
11. Directs families to additional resources as needed SDOH,
including social work, chaplain services, or patient advocacy Tufts
