forward-thinking Director of Practice Development to lead and
evolve the firm's approach to practice area growth and market
positioning. Partnering closely with practice leaders and
cross-functional colleagues, the Director will provide strategic
oversight for the Practice Development (PD) team. Together with PD
managers, they will shape and implement actionable,
practice-specific plans to advance our market presence, support
initiatives related to testifying experts and deepening client
engagement. This role requires a seasoned, inclusive leader who
excels at building consensus, managing complex projects, and
navigating a dynamic, multi-office environment with sound judgment
and strong influence. This role is part of a growing,
multi-disciplinary Marketing & Business Development department of
over 40 professionals, including teams focused on communications,
digital strategy, market intelligence, design, and events.The
individual will collaborate extensively with senior staff, firm
leadership, and cross-functional colleagues to translate insights
and opportunities into tactical, measurable practice-focused
initiatives. This role will partner with the department's Research
& Market Intelligence group to integrate relevant insights into
planning and prioritize initiatives that align with each practice's
growth areas. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a

the firm's evolving business needs.Essential Job Functions and
Responsibilities:
- Leadership and team oversight
- Lead and advise the PD team (currently 9) responsible for
translating strategy into execution through marketing deliverables,
client events, and affiliate engagement.
- Evaluate and enhance processes for the creation of high-impact
marketing materials, including qualifications, proposals, practice
content, and speaking platforms.
- Establish clear goals and workflows for the PD team; coach and
mentor team members for performance and growth.
- Promote an inclusive, team-first culture that values
collaboration, feedback, and innovation.
- Strategic practice area support
- Collaborate with the practice leaders and PD managers to
understand business goals and inform the development of tailored
marketing strategies and initiatives.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to key stakeholders across
our practice areas to shape growth agendas that respond to evolving
market dynamics, client needs, and competitive opportunities.
- Ensure the PD team is appropriately resourced, structured, and
supported to deliver against practice area roadmaps and to address
the changing needs of a growing organization.
- Develop frameworks, planning tools, and best practices that
enable the PD team to translate high-level strategic priorities
into tactical initiatives and client development activities.
- Encourage sharing of best practices in strategic planning,
business development approaches, and market engagement across
practices and PD managers, while allowing for customization based
on individual practice needs.
- Project management and execution
- Oversee complex initiatives with attention to scope, deadlines,
and stakeholder alignment.
- Advise on and support practice needs related to qualifications,
pitches, proposal content, client-facing events, and thought
leadership materials.
- Navigate prioritization and evaluate impact and effectiveness
of practice-led campaigns/initiatives.
- Cross-functional collaboration
- Act as a key connector across the Marketing function for
practice efforts - ensuring alignment with digital, design,
editorial, and CRM to ensure coordinated support for practice
objectives.
- Partner with the Research & Market Intelligence team to inform
practice development planning.
- Engage with consultants to ensure practice-specific initiatives
are actionable, measurable, and supported firmwide.
- Market development and positioning
- Identify and prioritize profile-raising opportunities in
collaboration with practice leadership and PD managers - including
speaking engagements, conferences, rankings, awards, and
sponsorships.
- Introduce structured approaches to business development
planning and client targeting efforts and suggest potential
initiatives and activities for these efforts.
- Support messaging and positioning that reflects the firm's
differentiators in the marketplace and are tailored to each
practice's strengths.Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of leadership experience in professional services
marketing, practice development, business development or similar
required.
- Experience within an economics, legal, or consulting
environment preferred.
- Demonstrated experience directly managing team members, with
additional oversight or influence over a broader team or matrixed
group. Accountable for performance management, mentorship, and
professional development across both direct and indirect
reports.
- Proven ability to build consensus through influence, presence,
and positive discussion.
- Demonstrated success managing multi-disciplinary teams in the
design and execution of business development strategies.
- Strategic, collaborative, and intellectually curious; able to
lead through complexity and ambiguity with a solutions-oriented
mindset.
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills with
the ability to develop project plans, set deadlines, and manage
multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with
experience developing high-impact messaging and positioning
strategies.
- Meticulous attention to detail and high standards for quality
and accuracy.
- Strong intellectual curiosity and capacity to absorb complex
material and develop a nuanced understanding of the firm's
work.
- Flexible and adaptable when working with diverse personalities
and across time zones.
- Collaborative, inclusive mindset with strong interpersonal and
cross-cultural competence.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Teams); fluency in using CRM systems and experience
databases; demonstrated ability to assess and implement emerging
tools and technologies-including AI/GenAI-to improve marketing
execution, automate content development, and support team
effectiveness.
- Experience leading teams through digital transformation or tool
adoption, with a focus on increasing operational efficiency and
enhancing content quality.
