With our historic growth, it is an exciting time to join our team of employee-owners.This opportunity entails being responsible for leading a professional or technical discipline section in the design, development and delivery of project tasks while managing scope, budget, and quality control. This position coordinates project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the proper resources at the appropriate time. Responsible for technical coaching and mentoring and efficient, productive utilization of staff in providing high-quality service. The number of employees directly and indirectly supervised by the Section Manager- Engineering is at least 5 but typically 7 - 10 or more.What You'll Do:

• Develops, monitors and manages the section's operating budget in support of the group or office operating budget and forecast updates.
• Responsible for the management, growth and professional development of discipline-specific engineering section. Coordinates section activities establishes priorities and staff to jobs. Ensures staff development, mentoring and training needs are being met. Collaborates with other Sections and Departments within the office on work-sharing needs and opportunities.
• Supports the implementation of the firm's strategic plan and HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) process on project pursuits in the Section and office, including development of Section-level strategic planning strategies.
• Supports the implementation of the firm's contracting (SCA) process through project delivery and contracting activities including scope, work plan and fee reviews for all contracting activities impacting the Section.
• Supports the implementation of the firm's project delivery (SDA) process including Work Planning, Monthly Project Reviews and other project performance methods to ensure quality work, on time, on schedule, to the client's satisfaction.
• Assists in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win-to-work activities
• Maintains client contacts to ensure client satisfaction
• Recruits, hires, develops and retains section staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
• Manages assigned project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget and quality management) and performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications and plan preparation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 8 years of practical experience including 2 years of leadership experience.What You'll Bring:
    • Shows excellent technical knowledge and quality work in multiple discipline projects.
    • Prioritizes tasks and displays accountability to the project team to deliver projects that are of high quality, on-time, and within budget and scope.
    • Demonstrates vision beyond the task at hand and anticipates risks and effects of their actions.
    • Understands and supports the objectives that are responsible for successful project delivery, recognizing how multiple disciplines influence project development
    • Applies an accrued knowledge base to innovate project efficiencies.
    • Uses refined technical skills to identify problems, develop appropriate solutions, and make good decisions, knowing what tools to use for effective solutions and optimal outcomes on projects.
    • Performs structural analysis, design and construction evaluations for bridge and tunnel projects throughout New England.
    • Leads technical tasks, and coordinate staff efforts for development of contract plans, specifications and cost/qty estimating on structures replacement and rehabilitation projects.
    • Serves also as a technical (structural) advisor for large, complex infrastructure projects and design-build pursuits in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.What We Prefer:
      • Master's degree in Engineering
      • 10 years of relevant experience
      • Professional Engineer (PE) certification in MA and RI
